International Women's Day 2025

We are proud to celebrate International Women’s Day 2025.

This year’s theme, Accelerate Action, reminds us of the systemic barriers and biases that women face in both their personal and professional lives - and encourages us to consider what we can do to address them.

We asked Marie, Justis, Renata and Heather to reflect on their experiences within Accountability and the accounting industry.

Marie - Accounts Junior

Changing careers from hospitality to accounting was a big leap for me, but I’m so grateful to have found my place at Accountability, where the incredible support and respect from the team—led by the inspiring Rosie—has made all the difference.

Starting something new can feel daunting, but the constant encouragement I receive here has helped me build confidence and develop my skills every day. Accountability has given me the ideal environment to grow professionally while feeling valued and supported every step of the way.

I’m so fortunate to work alongside such inspiring individuals. Being surrounded by people who lift each other up is truly empowering.

Justis - Accounts Senior

On my very first official day at Accountability, Rosie invited me to attend Accountex Manchester. This was a unique experience for me, as the previous firms I worked with never participated in such events. It was a clear sign that Accountability truly values and supports CPD.

Taking time out of the day to focus on learning is crucial to staying up to date in the ever-evolving accounting industry and providing our clients with the best possible service. It has been especially helpful for me having immigrated from Australia - as I needed some time to get to grips with the ins and outs of the UK taxation systems.

Since starting in September 2024, I have already been promoted to Accounts Senior, to be aligned with my current skills and expertise. In the accounting industry, promotions can be challenging to achieve, even when deserved. I am so lucky to work for a business which does not put a cap on your progression. Accountability fosters an environment where women can thrive, paving the way for the next generation of leaders.

Renata - Junior Bookkeeper

Ten years ago, I made the life-changing decision to move from Poland to Scotland. It was an incredibly daunting experience, especially as I struggled with speaking English. Adapting to a new culture and navigating daily life was a steep learning curve. Despite the challenges, I persevered. I started college, which was a huge step toward building a future for myself. Later, I had children, which brought immense joy but also new responsibilities.

After maternity leave, I decided to return to my career in accountancy—a decision that came with its own set of challenges. Balancing work, raising kids, and pursuing my education hasn't been easy. Now, as a working mum, my days are a whirlwind of school runs, swimming classes, rugby practices, and studying for my AAT Level 3 course. But thanks to the flexibility offered by Accountability, I've been able to manage my time effectively and maintain a healthy work-life balance.

The past three years at Accountability have been transformative. During this time, I completed my AAT Level 2 and am now working towards my AAT Level 3 qualification. As a foreign woman, the initial hurdles I faced seemed insurmountable, but the unwavering support and encouragement from my colleagues have been instrumental in helping me grow and gain confidence. Today, I feel more empowered than ever, knowing that I am part of a community that values diversity and inclusion.

Heather - Accounts Senior

International Women’s Day to me is more than supporting each other and championing the successes within our team – although of course, this is important.

It is also about carrying the same high standards, as a woman, that would be expected of any qualified, capable persons.

Everyone in our team is up for a challenge. This drive is contagious and it’s what I believe to be one of the reasons we’ve grown so much as a practice. I can say with absolute certainty it has brought about my own professional development since joining Accountability almost a year ago.

My skillset has grown through being exposed to different industries, clients, and projects. My knowledge on treatment of VAT under different circumstances has increased, I feel I am a better advisor having seen the struggles and achievements of a variety of clients and I have grown in my knowledge of different software which can help support clients. All of which would not have been possible without the encouragement to attend webinars, events, and the ability to work so hands on with my clients.

We are listened to within the practice, we have weekly one to one meetings, an approachable Company Director and a supportive team. We are all treated as reliable and trustworthy people which enables us to be flexible within work patterns and this, I believe, leads to a happier and more productive team.
